Words come back
To haunt you
A statement
More true
I have not heard
Sometimes innocent
Sometimes not
The words
Easily forgotten
But memory
Still remains
I feel
Bitter regret
The sting of apology
Welling in my heart
I’m sorry
So sorry
For what I said

Life would be so much easier if we could erase our mistakes, take back the hurtful words we did or didn’t mean to say. We can only learn from them, grow stronger, and hopefully, be all the wiser for it.
