Roosting

The doves
Are back again
Snuggling
As they always do
On the rails
Of our back deck

Content to coo
And roost
As they watch
Buds form on trees
Grass turn green
Insects swarm madly
In the afternoon sun

A nice snack
For later
I suppose

Soon they will
Fly off
Build a nest
Raise their young
And not be seen again
Until next spring

I will enjoy
Their brief visit
While I can
