Bragging Rights
The ache
For my mother
Is strong this morning
Her absence
Stinging
Raw
Unwanted
The kids had
Teacher conferences
Last night
I would be
Calling her
Right about now
Had she been alive
Bragging
Boastful
As only I
Could be with her
And not feel stupid
She gobbled up
The kids’ accomplishments
By the spoonful
Always laughing
Wanting more
I will not
Get that satisfaction
Today
Nor ever
And I must
Learn to live with that
