Righting Wrongs

It is easy to get caught up in righting a wrong
Righteousness can consume the good sense
That comes with knowing that the wrong might never be resolved
In a way that satisfies our own sense of justice

Whether it was something I did
Or something you did
Or something somebody else did to us

The realization that we must
Learn to live with the outcome
Can be a huge blow to the ego
When the wrong still feels wrong
Especially after exhausting all of the options
When trying to right that wrong

Finding victory in times such as these
Can be hard to fathom
As our influence might seem like only
A small ripple in a larger pool
But is important to allow ourselves the courtesy
Of acknowledging that the effort we expended towards righting that wrong
Might alter the outcome of a future wrong further down the road
Maybe even preventing it from ever happening in the first place

We will have made a mark
Somewhere within someone or something
Though we might never know what that impact had been
Even so
We should allow ourselves the luxury of believing
That we did make a difference
And that what we did was enough

Maybe that type of resolution can
Dispel the dismay from our minds
Allowing us to find peace within our hearts
Though the wrong might still feel wrong
