He’s a good man
With a good heart
One of the many reasons
I devoted my life to him

Being committed to such a man
He with an unerringly strong compass
Directing him to do the right thing
Even at cost to himself
Has been a blessing
Allowing me to grow in ways
Exponential to what I
Could have done alone

But goodness sometimes
Translates into something else
As so many powerful people
Touching our lives
Tend to get ahead
By stepping upon
The humanity of others
And are cheered for it
Filling the spaces in society
Where a pure heart
Would do most good

Even so
I would never walk away
From the life we have together
Though we struggle to raise children
Who will ultimately value
Humanity over a dollar
Following goodness in their hearts
Like their father
And maybe like me
