What to say about
Being a military brat
Other than we are
Different from others
In a way that is
Indescribable

Except to us
We know
Deep in our hearts
We all know

We are kindred spirits
Floating through life
Making a difference
Where we can

Trying to put down roots
For our children
Giving them a place
To call home

We accept each other
In a way the outside world
Does not
And I am grateful

We are patriotic
To our core
Maybe even a bit zealous
In our love of
Country and culture

But then
How else could it be
When we
Have experienced
The extraordinary

Shared in the feelings
Of being isolated
Yet not alone
Never alone
For friendships formed quickly
Cementing us together
Briefly in time

All the while
Being observers on the inside
Watching our parents
Face unimaginable situations
To serve and protect
In the name of freedom

I miss you
Fellow military brat
Short reunions such
As ours this past weekend
Only leave me hungry
Yearning for more
