Just as I find myself
Rummaging about in the kitchen
For a bite to eat
I happen to glance out the window
There in the street
Is a fat brown squirrel
Purposefully scampering
From one side of our house
To the other
Tail gracefully mirroring
Its every movement
I can’t help but
Glance down at my own attire
No bushy tail for me
Full coat of fur glistening in the sun
Just baggy shorts
And a tie dye t-shirt
Yet I feel a kinship
With this tiny creature
It with shorn acorn in its mouth
Me with my hand
Filled with peanuts
