Aside

Chicken Politicking

I saw you
Debating last night
So sure
That you were right
And everybody else
Was wrong

Disillusioned comes to mind
For how can you be so certain
You have all the answers
When I’m not even sure
What I should
Prepare for dinner
Tonight

Take chicken for example

I like chicken
My husband likes chicken
The kids like chicken
But how I prepare it
(Or who prepares it)
Will decide who will eat it
And who won’t

Even that is too
Vague an answer
Since it is a fact that
The exact same way
I prepared chicken
Last week
Will most likely seem disgusting
Even inedible to some
This week

Maybe I overcooked it
Or undercooked it
and now everybody is sick
So I alter it
Taste it
Tweak it
Change it
All in the hopes
That we will get through
Dinner without
A bunch of whining
About the choice I made
