Aside

A Bassinet

I see her
In my mind’s eye
sleeping peacefully
Within a wicker bassinet

The room is dark
But for a beam of light
Shining through the window
Encapsulating the child
In a halo of God’s love

A short memory
Of needles and pain
But it is her mother’s eyes
That she will remember

The mother
Radiating peace and serenity
In that cold place
Though her tender heart
Is torn apart
The mother
