You had a fine time
Turning an ordinary pumpkin
Into a scary jack-o-lantern
I enjoyed every minute
Watching you
Reach in with a grimace
To scoop slimy seeds
Out of the pumpkin
With bare hands
So careful you were
Carving a spooky face
From rind and orange skin
With a sharp knife
And loads of imagination
You proudly displayed
Your handy work
On our front porch
Until last night
When some idiot
Decided to come along
And smash your
Jack-o-lantern to bits
On our sidewalk
You should be
Ashamed of yourself
Pumpkin smasher
For using
A little kid’s
Creativity
And hard work
For cruel sport
Think
Think
Think
Before you act

You don’t think something like this could happen in your quiet neighborhood…until it does. I was a teenager once, but I never felt the urge to vandalize somebody’s property. Well, pumpkin smasher, we’re going to buy two more pumpkins and our kids will once again turn them into jack-o-lanterns. They will proudly display their handy work on our front porch. But beware, we’ll be watching..
