It’s lonely around here
When you’re gone
The house is too quiet
The fish tank too loud
Counter tops are too clean
Bar stools too barren
Without your stuff
Piled on top of them
Only half of our bed is made
Yours
And your toothbrush is missing
Leaving the other three sad and unbalanced
As they lean forlornly near each other
Inside the toothbrush stand
Wind
Blow my love home
Clouds
Keep the snow at bay
Until he arrives safely
At our door

We can go months without my husband being away overnight. And it doesn’t matter if it’s only for one night or a whole week, I still miss him as soon as he walks out the door. Sometimes I miss him when he drives down the street to the coffee house for a couple of hours. Silly? Maybe, but I am who I am.
